The road to Batopilas from the logging town of Creel is a tortuous winding road that descends one hundred miles and some seven thousand feet from cool pine forests to the warm and semi tropical Pueblo Magico town of Batopilas. The dirt road used to take some fourteen hours to drive but now the new road takes only some 4 hours or more with stops.
Above-the road far below following the river to the town.
Above- One of the few wide spots one could stop.
Above and below- A rustic clean outhouse perched above a million dollar view.
Below– If you look carefully you can see a house clinging to this hill.
Above -at this bridge near town the old road which had been used since the 1700’s went off to the right.
As we got closer to town many gigantic rock falls covered half of the road and we had to detour around boulders as big as houses.
Below we passed this odd formation. There are many more such formations on the top of the mountains (more on them later) but this one was solitary
Below-Eventually the road levels out and we come to the town of Batopilas.
