THE BOTANICAL GARDENS
It is hard to believe but this beautiful botanical garden was only established after the military who had been there since the mid 1800’s vacated the site. Prior to the mid 1800’s it was used by the Dominicans as some kind of garden space. The first plants were put in during the summer of 1998, and the garden opened to the public in 1999.
Mexico is among the most biologically rich countries in the world. Of all of Mexico’s 31 states, Oaxaca is the one with the most biodiversity. This also accounts for Oaxaca’s great ethnic diversity with no less than 16 ethnic groups and languages.
