LAKE CATAMACO

February 18, 2020 by admin

LAKE CATAMACO sits in the beautiful lush Tuxla Hills which rise up from the flat coastal plain of Veracruz.

We took a “lancha” out to look at the islands in the lake.

There are several volcanic islands within the lake and some are home to native and imported monkeys as a University of Veracruz research project. Our boatman pointed the bow into an island of trees and a spider monkey slowly climbed aboard. After surveying us he slowly walked along the centre of the boat where he sat for a few moments at the helm having his photo taken before departing as silently as he came. Seemingly quite tame and not aggressive at all.
