ACTOPAN

February 20, 2020 by admin

In the town of Actopan is an ex-convent called St Nicholas Tolentina.

It was founded in 1546 and is in the State of Hidalgo

One enters through massive arches.

The main church itself is not remarkable by Mexican standards and is quite plain on the interior-except for the statues.

Some interesting details.

The convent though which is attached is the remarkable thing. In any other country it would be in all the guidebooks. Here it is hidden away in a small town with little fanfare.

Below cacti in the  convent cloister gardens

Below our driver of some 1500 miles- Jorge. Here with a bread tortoise.

There is a video (in Spanish) here and here.
