About an hour east of Mexico City is Puebla, the capital and largest city of the state of Puebla and the fifth largest city in Mexico. Founded in 1531. It was a planned colonial era city located on the main route between Mexico City and Veracruz.
Due to its history and architectural styles ranging from Renaissance to Mexican Baroque, the city was named a World Heritage Site in 1987. The city is also famous for mole poblano, chiles en nogada and Talavera pottery. Most of its economy is based on industry with the world’s largest Volkswagen factory outside Germany and also an Audi plant being the most technologically advanced plant in the western hemisphere.
Below the old colonial era hotel we stayed in.
Above -The night clerk.
Above and below- streets in the neighborhood.
Facias in colored tile are a regular site here.
It has a church on almost every corner and some more grand than others.
The Chapel of the Rosario is an over the top piece of baroque.
Not sure what to think about this Last Supper. Lipstick on the food !
Puebla is a mix of ancient and modern. No more so than the ultra modern International Museum of the Baroque.
