Across the lake and up in the mountains about an hour or two away is a completely different landscape, climate and geography. At the higher elevations it is like Tuscany with many pines forests and green fields which in late October are filled with wildflowers. (Oct 2020)
It is called The Sierra Del Tigre -though I doubt a Tiger has been seen over the last ten thousand years. Located at over 7000 feet. It’s much cooler than lakeside. Winter nights can be quite cold. It was cool in the mornings even in late October.
Here avocado trees are creeping into the natural ecology due to avocados being a cash crop. Oak pine and mezquite cover the hills.
Elegant copses of pines everywhere.
Typical cabanas one finds nestled among the trees.
The ubiquitous corn is grown everywhere in Mexico.
Above and below our artist friend Cynthia du Bois who was also out there painting the wildflowers
Cynthia’s amiga Celine has a horse ranch near Concepcion de Buenes Aires and we had a visit with her and the horses-and the cow.
View of Mount Garcia from the other side from what we usually see lakeside.
We investigated many small side roads.
Some details of buildings.
We stayed at the Puerta del Tigre Hotel in Manzanilla de la Paz. A delightful rustic quiet place.
Views across the rooftops from our balcony.
We also had a view of the tower of a small Capilla where inside is a slab of stone that “miraculously” has the image of The Lady of Guadalupe on it.
The main church built on the site of a much earlier adobe one.
Above -typical colonnaded sidewalks in la Manzanilla and other hilltowns.
Above and below-the nearby town of Concepcion de Buenes Aires –another sleepy old colonial town with a great eatery Tio Lucas.
