NATURAL BRIDGES

June 21, 2021 by Allan Stephenson

Heading south from Capitol Reef  one travels the length of the Grand Staircase to ones right past the Henry Mountains to the left.

On the way one descends to the Glen Canyon which is the upper section of Lake Powell.

Above-The lake is now all but dried up in these upper reaches.

____________

Natural Bridges National Monument…is thankfully not a well visited site which allows for some sense of solitude especially down in the canyon.

There is a nice hike the lenghth of this canyon meandering along a creek bed with arches overhead.

One descends through a series of rock shelves with the help of ladders in places.

Although beautiful at the top overlooks it is best experienced by going down to the seldom visited canyon floor.

Below-Looking up at the sheer rock face of sandstone.

Below-Leaving Natural Bridges with the Bears Ears formation on the northern horizon.
