Sisteron is situated on the banks of the river Durance just after the confluence of the rivers Buëch and Sasse in the Alps Haute Provence region of France.
It is sometimes called the “Gateway to Provence” because it is in a narrow gap between two long mountain ridges.
It is 84 miles north from Marseille and 110 miles from Nice.
We were very fortunate to be invited to the ancestral home of our friend Karen Silve near Sisteron-a place she visits every year but usually later in the year.
View of Sisteron and its castle on the hill from the terrace.
The farmhouse which was built sometime in the 1500s
A spring gushes forth in front of the house.
The well worn back door step
The cosy living room.
Over the course of many days the lighting was always changing over the same views.
In all directions the landscape and the small towns are delightful and scenic

Cornillon-sur- lÓule
The Abbaye de Bodon near St May is way up a winding road to the top of a hill with grand views.
It is a VERY old place- some thousand years old. Very simple and sparse.
